PETER BYERLAY, VE3NIX

Biography for Pete, VE3NIX from www.qrz.com
Thanks for your interest. My name is Peter R. Byerlay (prefer "Pete"). XYL is Maxine. (She prefers "Max").
I was formerly Creative Director at Radio Station CKPC, 1380 KHz (25,000 watts) and CKPC-FM "FM 92.1" 92.1 MHz (50,000 watts) in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. I retired in October, 2000, after 40 years in the radio broadcasting industry. Then, in July 2006 I retired for a SECOND time after 4 1/2 years working as a "media monitor". That job involved recording and noting news, interview, and "open line" phone-in content on area news/talk radio stations for an international media monitoring firm.
Brantford, 95 kilometres (65 miles) west of Niagara Falls, and 95 KM Southwest of Toronto, is where Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in the year 1874. It is also the home town of former NHL Hockey star, Wayne Gretzky. His family home is about 3 blocks from my QTH. Another Brantford native is Dr. James Hillier, inventor of the electron microscope.
My hobbies, besides amateur radio, include photography, and travel. In amateur radio I work phone and some CW on the HF bands and, of course, 2 metres. I have been licensed since 1992.
Thanks, again for taking the trouble to read this brief bio.
" This is the end of www.qrz.com biography "

Bio from 2007. If i may just add here that Pete is a very willing participant of the Brantford Amateur Radio Club (BARC). He is a current Director, involved in special event communications for such as the Brantford and Paris, Ontario Santa Claus Parades not to mention his hosting of our club IRLP node. With Pete's kind offer and willingness to help, he and a couple of other members from the BARC were recently successful in launching our IRLP node back into service.
Pete's willingness to participate in technical or procedural discussions at our weekly club meetings is only a small part of his contribution to the club. Do you remember viewing some of the excellent photos on this web site? The Air Show for instance. Do you remember that in Pete's Bio-page he commented that photography was one of his hobbies? Well let me tell you that "hobbies" is not an apt description. He is a connoisseur of excellence when it comes to the use of his digital camera. From waterfalls to soaring jet aircraft, Pete has shot them all and we have been fortunate enough to have been the recipient of some of his excellent work here on this web site.
On behalf of the members of the BARC and yours truly, The WebMaster, , I would like to thank Pete for his contribution of photos to this web site. Thanks Pete and please keep up the good work.

I would like to thank Pete, VE3NIX for allowing us to preview him, his station and his Bio in our BARC Rogue's Gallery.
